Our project 'Windows of Welcome' is an art project supporting young refugees and strengthening communities in Gloucester.

Thanks to the Big Give campaign in March 2025, Windows of Welcome animated the Gloucester high street with three co-created artworks.

​

We engaged with young refugees to co-create the first artwork for the city with Joke Amusan. Genaro Martinez Medina ran some collaging workshops at Gloucester City Council on welcoming refugees to Gloucester, and created artwork based on the images and ideas that came out of it. Thirdly, Nadiyaa and Soozy worked with Matson Makers to create drawings that Sherina turned into a banner, exploring themes around home and welcome.

Displayed in Kings Square for Refugee Week 2025.

February-March 2025

We brought nationally renowned Hunt and Darton to Eastgate Shopping Centre in Gloucester!

Hunt & Darton’s ‘Kids Business’ workshops in February saw the young participants from Podsmead attend meetings around the board table where they debated everything from uniforms, procedures, products and services to roles, decor, brand, policies and signage!

Taking the final democratically agreed vision, the team then managed a dramatic make-over of the space – painting, building, stocking until the business is ready to open to the public, staffed by the young people who imagined it.

We opened for two weekends only, at 11 Bell Walk, Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gloucester GL1 1XH.

February 2025

We held our GRIEF RAVE on the Sabrina 5 barge at National Waterways Museum Gloucester, for people to shake up their day! 

We came together to play songs that connect us to people we have loved and lost, songs for political grief, music for any kind of loss or change.

​

Annie Frost Nicholson and The Loss Project have co-curated Grief Raves as part of the Fandangoe Skip installations in London and NYC.

They worked with our GASP Young Creatives to bring this unique experience to us and to Gloucester!

Supported by Canal and River Trust and Arts Council England, and part of the Folk Trail 2025.

July & August 2024

We collaborated with The National Gallery and Create Gloucestershire to bring GAWP! to Gloucester for a second time.

As part of this, we co-curated the exhibition "Representation" with our Young Creatives in our Pop-Up GAWP! Gallery on King’s Square.

The National Gallery Art Road Trip Bus parked on Kings Square with reproductions of artworks from the National Gallery, and NG facilitators hosted engaging art workshops in the GAWP! gallery.

We worked with highly regarded contemporary artists Daniel Trivedy, Catriona Robertson and Joke Amusan, plus over 15 Gloucester-based artists, to install work on Kings Square.

For 2024 we were in The Hideout along with Toc de Fusta's interactive installation made of large-scale automata, a giant metal whale swallowing audiences whole and the Wagon of Dreams.

We worked with a brilliant group of Gloucester creatives to bring a range of activities for visitors of all ages.

Started in 2022, continues each term.

March-June 2024

Folk for Folk : Art inspired by the past and rooted in the present, At the National Waterways Museum, with the Canal & River Trust. We engaged young people with a programme of events and an exhibition inspired by the Canal & River Trust Folk Art collection.

The project held artist commissions, community engagement, events and an exhibition. Open March 23rd-1st June 2024, the exhibition showcased a selection of the canal folk art collection from the museum, alongside new interpretations created for the project. 

#FolkforFolk was funded by Arts Council England and the Canal & River Trust.

The Word Walk is an art trail to tell the story of the place and communities in Gloucester, that connects place and history to tell the stories of local people, past and present.

Installed in March 2024 the ten artworks have been inspired by conversations and workshops with local people, as well as archive research about the locations.

With GAWP! we're testing a new model of playful and participatory arts in Gloucester - art you can take part in.

We brought the first GAWP! Art Weekender in September 2023, and it was a big celebration of creative talent in Gloucester. We brought together as many young people, artists, creatives and community members as possible.

These are textile and collage pieces, made by our group and some of the young people from our 2023 HAF workshops at The Ewe Space in Matson, with inspirational and positive quotes from members of the community about how they feel about themselves and their area.

As well as GAS Projects Art School at The Ewe Space and the Gloucester Resource Centre, we teamed up with @yournextmoveynm and @themusicworksglos to to bring Music, Art and Dance to Kings Square, Gloucester on Wednesday 5th April 2023.

March 2022

GASP! @ EWE was the first project we developed together in Matson, where we had been working and developing projects over the past 4 years.

We worked with Nadiyaa, Daisy-May & Remaar, alongside the staff and community members visiting the space, to create 2 exhibitions over the 4 month period of our first test project.

The Ewe Space is a creative community hub in Matson, Gloucester, supported by GLCommunities, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, Gloucester City Homes and Create Gloucestershire. 

2021-2023

Based at the Ewe Space on Matson Avenue, this community podcast showcased arts and community-based work in the Matson, Robinswood and White City ward of Gloucester.

Hannah started the podcast in November 2021 whilst working for GL Communities and production then got taken on by local resident Kiran Batool in September 2022 after a period of volunteering.
