About the Art

This artwork was inspired by the Getaway project run by Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership alongside The Music Works. The project engaged underrepresented communities to drive confidence in young people to access the countryside through sustainable travel.

The quotes on the signs were taken from feedback from the young people who took part in the project. In the audio you can hear more about this project and the work of GCRP.

About the Artist

Tom Brookes (aka Trix) is a Gloucester based street artist and fine artist working on whichever walls he can get his hands on. He's worked on huge murals for local businesses, public buildings and community organisations, but also in homes and on canvas.

"My word walk piece was done firstly by using spray paint to fill in the colour and get the general shape of the piece. Secondly, as the piece was smaller than a usual street art piece, I used brushes to apply the same paint on the finer details. Was a great day in the sun at the GAWP Art Weekender.

I've been doing art in all forms since I was young.  Street art is always the most fun as its usually outside and who doesn't enjoy doing a Big Art Attack.  A lot of my art these days is smaller watercolours, usually landscapes done outside, a good way to spend an afternoon.  I also do a lot of commission work across all my chosen mediums, from street art in peoples living rooms, to framed watercoulors of peoples weddings.

Recently I had the privilege of painting the outside of the Childrens Centre at Gloucester Hospital, at 16m high it was one of the tallest pieces I've painted.  It was also a pleasure to be able to paint a piece that would hopefully brighten up the days of the many people at the hospital everyday."
